The Debater

Possibility comes first for an ENTP's mind: a proposal, a plan, a claim someone just made, and the Debater is already several steps past it, generating the version that's better, the counterexample that breaks it, or the angle nobody in the room has raised yet. Each of those gets weighed against a quieter internal logic that either accepts it or quietly discards it, which is why an ENTP can seem to change position mid-conversation: the position update usually happened seconds after new information did. A single conversation with an ENTP can move through half a dozen unrelated topics and still feel, somehow, like one continuous thread.

In the early, undefined stage of a project, when the question is still what to build rather than how to finish it, a Debater turns into a genuinely energizing collaborator. They will find the flaw in a plan that everyone else has already signed off on, and will say so, which occasionally saves a project from a costly mistake down the line. An ENTP is also unusually good at arguing a position they don't actually hold, purely to see whether it survives the pressure.

Follow-through past the exciting part is the harder skill. Once a plan is settled and the work becomes repetition rather than discovery, an ENTP's attention tends to drift toward the next open question, and a project can lose momentum right when it most needs steady effort. The same quick counterargument that sharpens a group discussion can also land as needling if it isn't tempered, and a colleague who takes the debate personally rarely gets the memo that, to the Debater, it was never personal at all.
